KLS Martin Applicator System for Endovenous Laser Occlusion VENEX®

Innovative Technique
KLS Martin VENEX® System for EVLO (EndoVenous Laser Occlusion)

“Endovenous laser occlusion (EVLO) provides an excellent alternative to conventional surgical techniques. As this minimally invasive procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, it can be used even for multimorbid patients.”
Prof. Michael Jünger, Director of the Dermatological Hospital, Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald (Germany)

Varicosis (or varices or varicose veins, as the condition is called as well) designates a venous disease that affects every fifth male and every fourth female of the adult population.* Valve insufficiency in the superficial venous system or in perforant veins leads to “blow-out” (knotty thickening) in the great or small saphenous vein.

In the conventional technique, when using the so-called “stripping”, the varices are separated from the smaller lateral branch veins in a first step before they are pulled out with the Babcock probe in a second step. If the condition is ignored and left untreated, varicosis can lead to severe complications such as edemas, stasis dermatosis, thrombophlebitis, eczemas or even varicose ulcers (“ulcerated legs”).
