A wooden ladder, big ambitions and several of our OR lights - this is how our journey on the Chinese market began in 1994. Today, we operate our own site in Shanghai, where we employ 33 people, and have a local area-wide network of specialized distributors throughout China. 1896
Ludwig Leibinger founds Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik in Mühlheim in Germany. The company initially focuses on the manufacture of surgical instruments. Numerous product innovations and global expansion follow.
Today, in addition to more than 12,500 instruments, we offer implant systems for oral and maxillofacial surgery, neurosurgery, traumatology and hand surgery, as well as electrosurgery units, surgical laser systems, operating lights, medical supply units and individual room solutions for various clinical environments, such as operating rooms or intensive care units.
We distribute our products in over 140 countries worldwide and operate 17 marketing and sales locations as well as four company-owned manufacturing facilities.
1994
The first orders for our OR lights are installed in China.
2010
We open a representative office. We have chosen Shanghai as the location for a number of reasons: The city is vibrant, full of culture, history and, above all, future potential! With more than 25 million inhabitants and an impressive skyline, Shanghai is one of the most important metropolises in the world.
2017
We convert the representative office into a subsidiary. At this time, we employ 13 people in marketing and sales.
2020
We are celebrating 10 years of KLS Martin Medical Shanghai. Since the company was founded, our product portfolio and the number of our local experts have grown significantly. Today, 25 colleagues take care of the sales of CMF implants, surgical instruments, products in the field of electrosurgery and operating lights, as well as logistics, customer service, quality management, human resources management and regulatory affairs.
2021
The time has come for a spatial expansion - we are moving into a larger office with a product showroom for our partners and customers, where our products can be experienced and tried out live. The rooms also allow for on-site product training.

For the future, we would like to build on our previous journey and origins and continue to improve. This includes, above all, the further promotion of education and training of clinical personnel through cooperation with scientific partners such as the Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group (SORG) and the Electrosurgical Expert Group (ESEG), as well as the continued local and personal responsiveness for our customers and specialist distributors.
