Today, the project launched jointly with the Tuttlingen Broadband Initiative (BIT) and NetCom BW is bearing its first fruits. With #DarkFiber, we are now sending 10 Gbit of data per second back and forth between our two company sites in Tuttlingen and Mühlheim - with the potential to use even faster data connections in the future. To this end, we will successively renew the other peripheral devices and thus bring them up to the latest technical standard in order to be able to use the full speed of the line.
In addition to making work easier, the supposedly unspectacular cable also has other major advantages. The new fiber optic technology will enable us to shut down two of our four data centers at the sites in the future, thus saving electricity and at the same time increasing the security of the systems, especially in failure scenarios. Before the two sites were connected by fiber, we operated multiple data centers per site to have a redundant system available in the event of a failure scenario. The fast, real-time connection means that if one data center fails, another site can take over and provide the services needed for business operations.
