KLS Martin SE & Co. KG | Freiburg site

The site in Freiburg has been part of the KLS Martin Group since 2004 and looks back on a long tradition in the field of electrosurgery. The first electrosurgical devices were produced there as early as 1922 - at that time still under the name Fritz Hüttinger. In 1993, the company began developing medical laser systems. From 2004, the company operated under the name KLS Martin GmbH + Co. KG, until it merged with the two other German companies of the KLS Martin Group - Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik from Mühlheim an der Donau and Gebrüder Martin from Tuttlingen - to form KLS Martin SE & Co. KG.

Today, highly specialized technological competencies in both fields, the broad field of electrosurgery and laser surgery, are united in Freiburg. In everyday clinical practice, we have made a name for ourselves in particular with the Limax® laser for metastasis surgery and reusable systems in vascular sealing. Innovation is usually the result of the interaction of very different influences and stimuli. Developed hand in hand by KLS Martin engineers, renowned physicians, research institutions and industry.

KLS Martin SE & Co. KG | Mühlheim an der Donau site

The site in Mühlheim an der Donau was founded in 1896 as a family business - at that time still under the name Karl Leibinger Medizintechnik - and is today already being run by the fourth and fifth generations of the Leibinger family. Originally a watchmaker's store, the company soon switched to manufacturing surgical instruments. In the meantime, our Mühlheim site has become a high-tech forge that works closely with specialists in human medicine to continuously optimize the quality, functionality, precision and service of its medical technology solutions.

Today, we focus our research and development in Mühlheim on implants and surgical lights. Prominent innovations include distractors that enable guided bone growth for regeneration and healing of severe injuries and deformities. The innovative ultrasound procedure SonicWeld Rx® and resorbable implants that spare patients second operations. Or the holistic solution Individual Patient Solutions, which brings the virtual workflow into clinical reality and enables individualization of patient implants.

At the Mühlheim site we have an impressive vertical range of manufacture coupled with broad materials expertise. The manufacturing capabilities range from traditional machining processes such as milling and turning, to coating techniques, surface finishing and new shaping manufacturing processes such as injection molding and additive manufacturing. In terms of materials, we deal with traditional materials such as titanium and steel as well as resorbable and non-resorbable polymers and polymer compounds.

Today, the Mühlheim site belongs to the family-owned company KLS Martin SE & Co. KG. The company was created in 2023 as part of a consolidation of the KLS Martin Group with the aim of becoming a company in Germany. For this purpose, the following mergers took place.
